N Scale Trains

Commercial N scale trains and railroads were launched in 1962.

The N scale trains are the smallest of the four most popular scales of train. The ratio is from 1:148 to 1:160 depending upon the manufacturer/country.

In the case of the 1:160 scale trains, this means 160mm on a real train equals 1mm on the model train. The distance between the rails (the gauge) is 9 mm.

One benefit of choosing N scale trains is you can build railroad layouts that take up less space than the other popular scales.

But this is not the only reason for choosing N scale trains and layouts.

Selecting an N scale railroad layout also allows you to build more intricate and visually appealing sets compared to the same size of railroad layout in another scale.
