Model Trains Layouts
Getting started with model trains and layouts can involve a bit of trial and error, and to help you avoid some of the common errors here a few tips.
Model Trains and Layouts Tip 1
Most people begin with a starter kit which is quite small and basic. If you decide to use such a kit, ensure that you can ‘add on’ to the layout in the future. Otherwise you could find yourself having to discard your starter kit if you want to expand.
Model Trains and Layouts Tip 2
Choosing the right train is very important. A train that isn’t heavy enough will not grip the track sufficiently, but if it’s too heavy then it won’t be able to pick up speed sufficiently. The number of metal wheels has a great bearing on how well the train picks up the current of electricity from the rails, so the more metal wheels the better.
Model Trains and Layouts Tip 3
Choosing the right transformer is very important. While one transformer may be perfect for use on a basic track, it may be unable to cope with anything larger. It could prove to be an expensive mistake if you choose a transformer that is not powerful enough.

Scale is a very important factor to consider when choosing your accessories. It would look very peculiar if the buildings or trees were out of proportion to the size of your trains. Make sure you check and choose the figures, trees, etc., that match the right scale of your trains.
Taking a small amount of time planning your model trains and layouts before you get started, will prevent problems arising at a later date. Choose carefully and you’ll be rewarded with a model railroad that gives you a great deal of pleasure.
